RPZ Valve Installation & Back Flow Certifications

Does your commercial or residential property have any of the following plumbing systems:

  • Lawn sprinklers or other irrigation systems,
  • Interior overhead sprinklers (fire suppression system)
  • A large on-site boiler?

If so, it is required by the Environmental Protection Agency, Illinois State law, as well as Illinois State Plumbing code that is use of an RPZ valve is mandatory. Furthermore, yearly RPZ inspections of the RPZ Valve must be performed and RPZ certifications earned to ensure this critical valve is correctly working.

What is an RPZ Valve and why is it so important?

RPZ Valve is short for Reduced Pressure Zone Valve and these devices are installed on potable water lines in order to protect from any fluxuation in pressure and backflow into the consumable water supply.

RPZ Valves keep our drinking water clean and clear from any contaminants, such as pesticides or fertilizers, which may enter irrigation systems. If this should ever happen the now contaminated water remains trapped in the pipes and if the main water line pressure ever drops lower than the pressure in the irrigation system (which could happen for many different reasons), this could cause the contaminated water to backflow into the drinking water supply causing sickness of people who live in those affected areas.

When an RPZ Valve is installed it prevents this catastrophe from happening and keeps our drinking water clean and clear of potential contaminants.

Yearly RPZ inspections and resulting RPZ certifications are critical to ensure that the mandated RPZ Valves on all of your plumbing systems is functioning to code.

Let our licensed plumbers, who are Cross Connection Certified, inspect your RPZ Valve. Upon our RPZ inspection we can certify that your RPZ Valve is fully operational. If we should find any reason to not fully certify your current RPZ Valve, we can replace and install a new one for your system. Once the RPZ inspection is completed, we will send the RPZ Certification paperwork to the city for you.

Contact Elk Grove Village Sewer and Plumbing to ask about our yearly RPZ Certification reminder service so you will never have to worry if you are not in RPZ Compliance. Our Cross Connection certified professionals will take care of all of your RPZ Inspection and RPZ Certification needs.
