Sump Pumps

How Long Do Most Sump Pumps Last?

Do you regularly go and check on your sump pump? Or are you like many people who just hope that it works when you need it to? Many people forget about these vital little pumps until the moment they become necessary. Thankfully, they are typically there, faithfully working as they should. Unfortunately, they also have a lifespan that means they will not be around to remove water forever. Is your sump pump getting close to the end of its life?

When to Consider Replacing an Old Sump Pump

Your sump pump is meant to pump water away from the pit, likely in your basement, that collects water from around your home. Its goal is to pull the water from the pit and push that water as far away from your home as it can, based on the length of hose it has. That is a lot of work for the little motors in these machines.

Most sump pumps are designed to last from 7-12 years. However, the average lifespan most people get out of a sump pump is 10 years. If you know yours is getting up there in years, or you have no idea how old that pump is because it was there when you moved in, you may want to look. Most sump pumps have a code on them to identify them. You can often look that code up to get an idea of when it came out.

The easier solution would be for us to come out and look at it. We can give you an idea of approximately how old it is, and what type of condition it is currently in. If it is in good working condition, we may also be able to give you tips to help it last as long as possible.
