Do You Need to Replace a Pipe With A Hole?

Well, it’s happened. You notice that one of your pipes, perhaps one under the sink, has a tiny hole in it. You’re concerned about the hole, but you’re reluctant to spend money on it right now. When can you put off replacing a pipe with a hole in it, and when do you need to replace the pipe as soon as possible? Here are some suggestions for replacing a broken pipe.

Signs Your Pipe May Be Leaking

There are several signs your pipe might be leaking. One of the more obvious signs of a pipe leaking is if you spot water leaking directly from the pipe. You may also see wet spots on the cabinet or on the floor as well. You may also notice a musty smell in the room where a pipe is leaking. Your water bill may be higher as well because the water is constantly running.

When Does A Pipe Have To Be Fixed?

If your pipe has a small leak, and you can see a few drops of water, you’ll be able to wait for a little while. You may want to try using putty or sealant on the pipe to get the leak to stop.

However, if the leak is larger than a few drops of water, you’ll want to get the leak fixed. First, a leaky pipe causes mold growth, and no one wants to live in a house where mold is growing indoors. Second, leaky pipes can cause damage to your floors, because most floors were not meant to have a constant stream of water on them. Third, leaky pipes can undermine the flooring of your cabinets, especially the one under the sink. You don’t want to have a leaking pipe fixed and a cabinet replaced.
