The Dos and Don’ts of Finding a Trustworthy Plumber

Attempting to find a plumber that is efficient, knowledgeable, reliable and trustworthy can seem like a major task. In the northwest Chicago suburbs, stories run rampant of plumbers and contractors that left projects unfinished or that did subpar work. When the time comes for you to finally complete that kitchen renovation, or when an emergency plumbing situation arises, you don’t want to have to worry about finding a plumber that will meet your high expectations. By knowing what to look for, and what not to look for, you can be more confident that the plumber you choose will leave your home looking great.

Do ask for references.

Any outstanding plumber should be able to provide local references for you to contact. Ask for phone numbers of past clients that you can call, and then follow through by calling a few on the list. Ask about the work they had done as well as their experience working with the plumber.

Don’t take no for an answer.
If the plumber you are considering refuses to give you references or at least show you customer testimonials, it might not be the best fit for you. Word of mouth referrals are the best way to know if you are selecting a trustworthy and experienced plumber, so don’t skip this step.

Do ask for if they are insured, licensed and bonded.

Reputable plumbers are insured, licensed and bonded. They won’t mind putting your worries to rest by letting you know that is the case.

Do ask for an interview or consultation.

Ask to meet in person with the plumber you are considering. You can tie this interview in with a free consultation, giving information about your project while getting the chance to see if you communicate well together.

Don’t dismiss your instincts.

If you are feeling like something isn’t quite right, your instincts are probably right. Choose to err on the side of caution if you aren’t quite sure, and select another plumber to work with instead.

Fortunately, the team at Elk Grove Village Sewer and Plumbing is well established in the northwest suburbs. We would love the chance to meet with you to talk about your project and answer any questions or concerns you may have. Give us a call to talk about your project.
